Nelly Avila “Karina” Moreno, senior FARC rebel leader, surrendered Sunday, the Colombian defense ministry said. She has been accused by the government of the killing of President Alvaro Uribes father. She is claimed to have turned herself in after a promise that she would be safe. Karinas surrender is the third setback to the FARC, who have waged war against the Colombian state for 40 years this year. Both Luis Edgar Devia Silva, a.k.a Raul Reyes, a senior FARC leader and Ivan Rios, a.k.a, Manuel de Jesus Munoz were shot in March.
