Sierra Leone’s national soccer squad the “Leone Stars” will take on the flying eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana boys 7 and 14 June respectively in preparation for the 2010 World Cup qualifying series in South Africa. According to Secretary General of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Alimu Bah, the matches will be played at the National Stadium here. Already five Sierra Leonean footballers based in Europe are in town for the matches. The Football World governing body, FIFA lifted a temporary ban it placed on Sierra Leone’s only national Stadium late last week, after Zambia’s Football Association’s President Kalusha Bwalya, who in his capacity as FIFA’s Inspector in charge of security and Stadium, completed his verification and inspection tour in Sierra Leone, and said it (the stadium) was fit for international matches. National Stadium Manager, Alhaji Umaru Aziz, said the Sierra Leonean government provided (260 million Leones/US$ 1=Le295) to rehabilitate the National Stadium in less than a month to meet internationally acceptable standards.
