Egypt to play Iran in World cup qualifier preparation

Egypt will engage Iran in an international friendly football match in the United Arab Emirates, 20 August, as a tune-up towards the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Egypt will play the DR Congo a few weeks after the match in what would see the winner qualify for the third phase of the continent’s World Cup qualification stages. Both the DR Congo and Egypt top Group 12.
The 12 group winners and the best eight runners-up will qualify for the last phase of the qualifiers. Egypt and Iran have only met once in a FIFA encounter, in 2000, which saw Egypt victorious 8-7 on penalties in the Iranian capital, Teheran, after the match end e d 1-1.
