Nigeria’s flag carrier Virgin Nigeria is set to start flight operations to Abidjan, the Ivorian capital, on Monday, the local press reported Friday. ”Virgin Nigeria is strengthening her ties with the francophone countries and the launch of flight services to Abidjan will enhance travel options available to the travelling public on the route, as well as provide access between Francophone and Anglophone countries in the West African region,” Virgin Nigeria chief executive office Conrad Clifford was quoted as saying. Virgin Nigeria, owned 51% by Nigerian institutional investors and 49% by Virgin Atlantic, currently flies to Cotonou (Benin), Libreville (Gabon), and Douala (Cameroon), all Francophone destinations in West and Central Africa. It also flies to Accra (Ghana) and London (UK), among other destinations. The Lagos-based airline was established in September 2004.
