World Bank (WB) support for Africa increased during the 2008 financial year, in terms of food and finances, according to a statement by the office of the Bretton Woods in Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital, Thursday. The WB commitments increased by 11 per cent in the 2008 financial year to reach US$ 38.2 billion, following the rapid approval of funding aimed at helping poor countries face the food crisis. During the 2008 financial year, which ended 30 June, WB commitments were in the form of loans, donations, contributions, and guarantees aimed at assisting populations and private enterprises in member states, including the Africa region, which received the most considerable support.
