
Barack Obama, the first African American to reside at the White House has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, reports CNN. The Head of the Norwegian Novel Committee, Thorbjoern Jagland praised the US President “for his extraordinary efforts to strenghthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.” According to Reuters, it was Obama’s call to reduce nuclear weapons and his strong will for world peace that won him the Award. The prize worth 10 million Swedish crowns, will be handed in Oslo on December 10. Obama is the fourth US President to receive the award.
