U.N agencies have declared that a combination of the food crisis and the global economic crisis has pushed more than 1 billion people into hunger this year, writes The Associated Press. The Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Programme acknowledged that these alarming numbers represent 100 million more people than last year- the highest number in four decades. According to Reuters, the increase in the number of hungry people is not as a result of poor harvest but rather due to high food prices, lower incomes and lost jobs, particularly in developing countries.
